Apple is resorting to extreme cost-cutting measures to avoid widespread layoffs in response to the slowdown in the tech sector.
Apple has put a halt to hiring for numerous positions outside of research and development, including business responsibilities and typical hardware and software engineering roles, in order to control expenses and maintain its personnel amid economic uncertainties.
Given the difficult economic situation, the tech corporation stated in a statement from November 2022 that it was adopting a "very careful approach in various aspects of the business".
Apple stated, "We want to be deliberate and choose wisely so that we can continue to foster innovation for the long run.
Unnamed sources told Trade Algo that some Apple teams could still make exceptional exceptions to hire people.
In addition to its hiring freeze, Apple restricts its employees' ability to transfer to other divisions or stores and does not fill the positions left vacant by departing employees in order to save money.
Over 100 contract-based recruiters were let go by the corporation in August 2022 as part of its efforts to restrict hiring and save spending. But, it had little effect on Apple's full-time recruiters.
Also, Apple's management is now more stringent about employees reporting to work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The action increased worries that workers who didn't meet the threshold may be fired.
Apple has also been closely monitoring the attendance and working hours of its retail employees. According to Trade Algo, several retail workers claimed that the corporation occasionally does not make up the hours of individuals who call in ill or are absent for other reasons.
The tech giant apparently stopped providing "special sick time" for employees who have COVID-19, telling them to take regular sick days instead or risk losing their pay.
Apple launched steps to prevent racking up unnecessary costs in addition to slowing down its employment process and putting tight attendance monitoring in place.
Instead of biennial bonuses, Apple opted to give some of its corporate teams bonuses once a year or every October.
To free up cash for other urgent projects, the introduction of new initiatives, including new home appliances, was postponed until the following year.
In addition, Apple cut back on travel expenses and now requires its staff to acquire senior executives' consent.
Apple did not make any announcements on a decrease in staff as the new year began, despite the fact that its cost-cutting initiatives were perceived as harsh.
