The CEO of Chinese technology giant Lenovo, who now controls the brand, has stated that a new iteration of the foldable Motorola Razr will be released this year.
One of the most recognizable cell phones in the lineup, the Razr was first introduced by Motorola in 2004. One of the most well-liked flip phones of the 2000s was it.
In 2020, Motorola brought back the Razr name in a revolutionary foldable design, making it one of the first smartphone manufacturers to introduce a product with a bendable screen.
The Razr still has the ability to fold. The screen can bend, allowing the phone to fold, in place of the hinge included in the original handset.
In an interview with Trade Algo, Lenovo CEO Yuanqing Yang said that Motorola will release the next iteration of the foldable phone "very soon" and that the response to the Razr has been "excellent."
Yang remarked of the upcoming product, "I think it's lot better.
He gave very few specifics but stated that the hinge and the applications on the tablet would be the main areas of improvement. Manufacturers of foldable smartphones, including Samsung and Honor, have concentrated on the hinge to make sure it is strong and does not leave a line in the device's screen. This is where the new Razr phone would be improved, according to Yang.
Chinese manufacturers Honor and Oppo are among the businesses who have recently introduced foldable smartphones for the international market.
According to research firm IDC, shipments of foldable devices made up just 1.1% of all smartphone shipments in 2022 and are only projected to reach 2.8% in 2026. Nonetheless, they are viewed by electronics manufacturers as a method to enter the premium smartphone market.
Yang claimed that although the cost of foldables is currently fairly high, it will likely go down in the future, potentially expanding the market.
The Lenovo CEO remarked, "When the technology matures, then the price might go down and you can drive bigger volume.
Motorola is renowned for experimenting with various smartphone shapes. The business displayed a so-called "rollable" smartphone with a display that rolls up at MWC.
