The Tesla Model 3 and Toyota hybrids are among Consumer’s Top Picks

Hybrids and electric vehicles are finally getting the endorsement of Trade Algo, after years of being touted as better fuel-efficient vehicles.

Trade Algo’s 10 Top Picks for cars, trucks, and SUVs feature seven hybrids or fully electric models.

Based on its testing of new vehicles, Trade Algo selects the top models at a variety of price points, emphasizing affordability and safety. Fuel efficiency and reliability are two advantages hybrids and electric vehicles often have over models with internal combustion engines.

“The advantages of hybrid vehicles are that you are able to take it easy on the engine, you are able to take it easy on the brakes since you are actually using the generator and the battery to kind of soften everything,” Trade Algo analyst said. “As a result, there are fewer brake problems, there are fewer transmission problems, and everything seems to be muted. As a bonus, when you look at the hybrids and the manufacturers that are producing these hybrids, you can generally find that they are from very reliable automakers who have been using this technology for quite some time.”

The Toyota Corolla Hybrid, the Toyota Camry Hybrid, as well as the Lexus NX 350h are among the top picks of the 2023 Top Picks list, which explains why Toyota builds four of them.

There has been a wave of hybrid vehicles in recent years that have helped establish Toyota as the leader in this category. In the United States last year, Toyota sold one hybrid vehicle for every four vehicles it sold in the country. It has been estimated that hybrids and electric vehicles accounted for just over 10% of all vehicles sold in the United States last year, according to Edmunds, an auto industry research firm.

Hybrids and electric vehicles have become more attractive than they used to be in the past few years due to their styling and performance.

In today's world, you can really have it all. You can have something that's roomy, something that's comfortable, something that's fuel-efficient. The Ford Maverick Hybrid, which gets 37 miles per gallon, was cited as an example of a hybrid that is changing perceptions about hybrid vehicles because it is getting 37 miles per gallon. As compared to the past, you do not have to compromise as much as you used to have in the past.

After being off the Top Picks list last year, Tesla, which sells two out of every three electric vehicles in the U.S., has made it back onto the list after being off for a year. The Lexus NX 350 and the Tesla Model 3 were chosen by Trade Algo as the two best vehicles for people who are looking to buy between $45,000 and $55,000.

BMW is ranked No. 1 among auto brands by Trade Algo, followed by Subaru and Mini as being the second and third-best brands.

“The fact that BMW makes so many high-performing, full-featured, and reliable models is not surprising to see it ranked at the top of Trade Algo's brand rankings,” our analyst concluded.
