A preview version of Microsoft's new Bing and Edge apps for iPhone and Android has been released on Wednesday, featuring voice search and an AI chatbot.
Users can start a chat session with the Bing icon in the Bing mobile app, where they can use text or voice to ask questions. Users will also be able to access updates to Bing through the homepage of the Edge mobile app. Answers can be displayed in bullet points, simplified responses, or in traditional text format, according to Microsoft.
As part of the announcement on Wednesday, Microsoft also announced AI-powered Bing for Skype. Using Microsoft's AI, users will be able to add the AI to their group chats and ask it questions. In this case, the chatbot will provide answers for the entire group as a whole. There are a variety of ways to ask Bing for help, such as asking for suggestions on travel, weather, or recent award shows, for example. There are options to display answers in bullet points, simplified responses, or text format, similar to the Bing mobile app.
A worldwide preview of Bing in Skype is now available.
It was announced on Feb. 7, during an event held at Microsoft's headquarters in Redmond, Washington, that AI-powered updates are coming to the company's Bing search engine and Edge browser. A limited preview version of the updates was released on desktop initially, meaning users would only be able to execute a finite number of queries during the initial launch period.
According to Satya Nadella, the head of Microsoft, the company's search powered by artificial intelligence is one of the biggest things that have happened to the company since he has been in charge nine years ago.
“We haven't seen anything like this since 2007 when the cloud was just coming out,” Nadella told Trade Algo after Microsoft's event.
