According to Kunlun Tech, the parent company of Opera, the niche web browser, is planning to integrate ChatGPT into its products in the near future.
Opera did not mention a release date or whether the features would be available across all of its products, including its iOS and Android mobile browsers.
In the midst of the news, Microsoft and Google recently announced plans to incorporate artificial intelligence chatbot technology with their own search engines in the near future. A new chatbot, ChatGPT, has gained a lot of popularity since being released late last month by OpenAI, a Microsoft-backed company.
Statcounter data for January shows Google's Chrome browser has the largest market share worldwide with 65.4%, followed by Microsoft's Edge browser with 4.5%.
The data indicate that Opera is ranked sixth in the worldwide browser market with a share of 2.4%, according to the research.
As of the third quarter of 2010, Norway-based Opera, which also operates a browser that is specialized for gaming, had an average of 321 million monthly active users worldwide. In the third quarter, the company reported an increase of 28% in revenue year-on-year to $85.3 million thanks to its gaming browser business.
Kunlun Tech, the company's parent company, is based in Beijing, China, and is listed on the stock exchange in Shenzhen, China. It was announced last December that the company would make open-source a range of artificial intelligence-generated content, including music and images, that it had been working on over the past year.
Kunlun Tech's shares have soared by more than 40% so far this year, according to its stock market performance. During this time period, Opera shares, which are listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange, have risen just over 10%.
