Netflix is currently working on a new feature that could enable the company's mobile games to be played on TV. The Netflix iOS app may one day allow iPhones to be used as video game controllers thanks to a code hidden within the app.
The code was discovered by app developer Steve Moser, and Bloomberg reported the discovery. The code says that the game that you are playing on your TV requires a controller for you to play it. "Are you interested in using this phone as a game controller? ”
Considering that Apple has shifted from phones and tablets to the big screen, the findings indicate that the company is taking a significant step in that direction.
There was no comment from Netflix regarding the Trade Algo.
There have been previous hints that Netflix intends to bring games to a greater number of devices in the future. Netflix's VP of external games, Leanne Loombe, said in May that the company does want Netflix games to be playable on every Netflix device that you have. Additionally, Netflix posted a job listing last November for a game director to work on a AAA PC game that's going to be released this year.
Also in October 2022, Netflix's VP of Gaming Mike Verdu said that the company would expand into cloud gaming, in an interview with Trade Algo, as part of his explanation of the company's plans.
The company entered the mobile gaming space in 2021, and since then, it has released over 55 titles in that space, ranging from original titles like "Stranger Things" and "The Queen's Gambit" to popular games such as Heads Up!, Vikings: Valhalla, Valiant Hearts, and Country Friends, or to name just a few.
There has been an announcement recently that Netflix will release a slate of 40 mobile games starting in 2023, including Mighty Quest: Rogue Palace. Currently, there are 70 games that are being developed. There will be two new puzzle games available to subscribers at the beginning of next year: Monument Valley 1 and Monument Valley 2.
While Netflix does not disclose how many of its subscribers play mobile games, an Apptopia report from August 2022 indicated that less than 1% of Netflix subscribers are interested in playing them. The upcoming Netflix feature is likely to convince a few more players to check out the service, but it remains to be seen just how many will be able to do so.
