There will be a 50% reduction in the price of Meta's Quest 2 and high-end Quest Pro headsets, the company announced on Friday.
Meta Quest 2's price will be lowered from $499.99 to $429.99, while Meta Quest Pro's price will be slashed from $1,499.99 to $999.99, which will be a substantial reduction from its current price of $1,499.99.
It is estimated that Meta will have lost $13.7 billion in 2022 on its Reality Labs segment. There is a business unit within the company that is in charge of developing the company's ambitious metaverse technologies. In 2022, Reality Labs generated $2.16 billion in revenue - a decline of about 15% from $2.27 billion in 2021 - including sales of Quest headsets, which generated $727 million in the fourth quarter.
As we all know, the Meta Quest Pro 2 was announced in November, but its high price put it out of reach for the majority of consumers. In addition, it did not seem like there was a clear professional use case as well. There is a possibility that both audiences will find it more attractive due to the lower price.
In a release, the company says that its goal has always been to create hardware that is affordable for as many people as possible, allowing them to take advantage of all the benefits that virtual reality offers. The Meta Quest 2 price changes will begin rolling out on March 5 and will last until the end of the month.
On March 5th, the Quest Pro's new price will also be available to U.S. and Canadian buyers. The price of the device will be lowered for the rest of the world on March 15th.
