By 2037, the cloud computing division of Amazon.com Inc. expects to invest $6 billion in Malaysia to build out its cloud computing infrastructure.
On Wednesday, Amazon Web Services announced plans to develop an infrastructure region in Malaysia with three "availability zones," or data center clusters. The zones will be added to the 99 already existing ones worldwide.
According to AWS, the move will allow users to securely store data in Malaysia and meet the demand for cloud services throughout Southeast Asia.
According to Prasad Kalyanaraman, vice president of infrastructure services at AWS, the move demonstrates Amazon's commitment to Malaysian clients as well as to meeting the region's rapidly expanding demand for cloud services.
The construction of an infrastructure zone in Malaysia, according to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, will give local firms the chance to flourish, train a qualified workforce, add jobs, and produce long-term economic progress.
According to a statement from Mr. Anwar, "AWS has committed to the greatest international technology investment in Malaysia to date, which will promote our vision of a highly skilled, inventive, affluent, and sustainable economy.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia and state-owned oil and gas corporation Petroliam Nasional Bhd are two businesses and government organizations in Malaysia that use AWS services. and the telecommunications firm Axiata Group Bhd., according to AWS.
