An event live-streamed in Paris on Wednesday featured examples of Google's new conversational technology, Bard. Unlike OpenAI's ChatGPT AI, Bard is Google's competition.
Following Tuesday's announcement, Microsoft announced it would integrate OpenAI's GPT technology into Bing's home page.
As part of a brief presentation, Raghavan displayed slides showing Bard's capabilities. As an example, Bard can be used to plan a trip to Northern California or to display the pros and cons of owning an electric car.
“Imagine you're shopping for a new car, one that fits the needs of your family,” Raghavan suggested. "Bard helps you simplify and make sense of the different angles to consider, such as budget and safety."
It was Raghavan's position that electric cars have advantages and disadvantages as well.
Among the pros listed under "Pros," the first bullet said: "Electric cars generate zero emissions when driven, which is better for the environment than a gas-powered car." Generally, gas cars are cheaper to operate than electric cars, according to the second bullet point. They produce emissions that contribute to climate change. Unlike cars, they don't need oil changes or tune-ups, and there are fewer moving parts, which means they are less likely to break down.
Using a public charging station can take a while, especially if you are using an electric vehicle with a smaller battery. The first bullet under "cons" stated: "Electric cars have a smaller driving range, depending on the size of the battery."
Bard might plan a road trip according to another slide he showed. The first longer drive between San Francisco and Santa Cruz might be a good time to stop and take in some sights. Can you suggest a few places to visit along the way? ”
In addition to Half Moon Bay, Pescadero, and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Bard provided a concise description of each stop between the two points. There's no better way to see Pigeon Point Lighthouse than to stop by and take in the view," the description says.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced Monday that Google's new conversation technology Bard would be integrated into search and is based on artificial intelligence, which confirmed previous reports from Trade Algo. Soon after Bard is launched widely, the company will open it to select testers.
However, research has also indicated that Bard can be inaccurate, just like other AI tools. An advertisement for Google's service, for example, showed Bard incorrectly describing the telescope used by scientists to take the first pictures of planets outside our solar system. We reached out to a Google spokesperson for comment, but he did not respond immediately.
In a recently released statement, Google CEO Sundar Pichai told employees they would be required to test Bard in a hackathon-style format as they compete with ChatGPT, the chatbot from Microsoft-backed OpenAI that swept the nation last year.
