April 4, 2023
minute read

After an increase in oil prices resulted in a spike in the cost of crude oil, stocks fell Tuesday as inflation remained a concern.

The following stocks made notable moves on Tuesday:

AMC Entertainment AMC –22.98%

This is as a result of the fact that AMC has reached a settlement that will allow the movie theater chain to convert its AMC Preferred Equity, or APE, units into common shares, thus allowing the movie theater chain to proceed with its conversion. The share price of AMC Entertainment dropped 14% to $4.41 while the APE price rose more than 17% to $1.74.

Virgin Orbit VORB –17.22%

In a chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, (VORB) filed for protection owing to the fact that it was unable to raise sufficient funds to keep operating. The stock declined 22% from the close to above 15 cents.

AeroVironment

There has been a 12-percent jump in share price for AVAV (AVAV) since Raymond James upgraded the stock from Outperform to Strong Buy.

Lighting company Acuity Brands

There was a 7.7% decline in the stock price for the quarter after the company reported adjusted earnings of $3.06 a share for the quarter, topping analysts' estimates of $3.10 a share. However, sales were lower than expected.

Etsy

(ETSY) was up 4.7% at $113.29 after Piper Sandler analysts upgraded the stock from Neutral to Overweight in their latest analysis, which was published yesterday.

ServiceNow

Shares of the workflow software company (NOW) rose 1.9% to $472.84 on Friday when Baird upgraded its outlook on the company to Outperform from Neutral. The price target for the company has been raised to $548 from $475.

Burlington Stores

( BURL ) gained 1.7% following Loop Capital's upgrade of the share price of the off-price retailer to Buy from Hold, resulting in a 1.7% gain.

Boeing

In a report released today, Northcoast downgraded shares of BA (BA) from Neutral to Sell, which represents a 1.6% decline in the stock price of the airplane manufacturer and aerospace giant.

There was an increase of 1% in the stock price of Sarepta Therapeutics (SRPT) on Tuesday after Citi analysts initiated coverage of the company with a Buy rating.

Walmart WMT –0.24%

The world's largest retailer is holding an investor conference for two days starting on Tuesday. Last month, the company issued earnings guidance that was below analysts' predictions for fiscal 2024. In a statement provided by Wells Fargo analyst Edward Kelley, he said Walmart looks like the first quarter is shaping up to be a good one and that he expects to hear a good report on the company. The stock closed down 0.4% at the close.
