Co-Founder of ChatGPT, Elon Musk, Warns AI is a Major Threat to Civilization

I think the latest chatGPT shows that artificial intelligence has gotten incredibly sophisticated in the last few years - and that it is a problem that we all need to be concerned about, according to tech billionaire Elon Musk.

“AI is one of the biggest risks for the future of civilization, Musk said, shortly after mentioning the development of ChatGPT to attendees at the World Government Summit in Dubai.

“There are both positives and negatives to it, and it has great promise, great capability,” as Musk pointed out. However, he stressed that "the downside is that there is great danger associated with it."

It was asked by the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter how he sees technology developing in the next 10 years, and how he sees things changing.

He is also one of the founders of OpenAI, a U.S. startup that developed ChatGPT, an AI tool that gives users human-like responses to their questions through the use of generative AI.

In essence, ChatGPT is an advanced form of artificial intelligence with a large language model called GPT-3 which is powering it. The program is programmed with the intent of understanding human language and generating responses based on a large amount of information.

Using ChatGPT, Musk claims that he has demonstrated to people the level of advanced AI that has become over the past decade. “There has been an advancement in AI for quite a while now. The problem was that it didn't have a user interface that was easy to use for the majority of people."

“As compared to vehicles, airplanes, and medicine, which are all subject to regulatory safety standards, artificial intelligence (AI) is not subject to any regulations that are keeping its development under control,” he said.

As Musk put it: "I think AI safety needs to be regulated at some point," he said. “As a matter of fact, this is a bigger threat to society than cars, planes, and medicine, as far as I am concerned.”

Musk added that the regulation might slow down AI a little bit, but I think it might also be a good thing at the same time.

There is no doubt that the billionaire has long warned of the dangers of unfettered AI development in the future. There was a time when he said that artificial intelligence was "far more dangerous" than nuclear weapons.

As ChatGPT threatens to upend the job market with more advanced, human-like writing, his words carry more weight today.

In 2018, Musk stepped down from the board of OpenAI and no longer holds a stake in the company.

“Initially, it was created as a nonprofit organization that used open-source software. As of now, it is a closed-source project that is for profit. Neither do I own any interest in OpenAI, nor am I a director, nor do I have any control over it in any way."

Musk explains that one of the reasons for his decision to establish OpenAI was that Google was not paying enough attention to AI safety, which was one of the reasons for Musk's decision.

There has been a heated battle between Google, a titan in internet search, and Microsoft, a company that has invested in OpenAI and integrated its software into its Bing web browser, which has led to a heated debate about ChatGPT.

ChatGPT was retaliated against by Google with its own tool called Bard, which is a competitor to ChatGPT. ChatGPT's dominance in the search engine industry is in doubt, as investors question whether ChatGPT will be able to compete with its dominance in the search engine industry.
