The Wall Street Journal has launched five email challenges over the past few years to help readers improve in various areas of their lives, from fitness to money management. Each challenge begins when the reader signs up, and continues with one email per week for five or six weeks, containing exercises and tips.

We've updated and refreshed our short courses for 2023, so if you're looking for a project or challenge to kick off the new year, now's your chance. We don't recommend doing all four challenges at once, but we do recommend taking advantage of the fresh-start energy the new year brings and making plans for joy in January.

Although many of us begin January with a pledge to make grand reforms, resolutions often fade fast. So, this year, focus instead on implementing simple science-based strategies to make each part of your day a little better. From sleeping to eating, health and wellness reporter Anne Marie Chaker will guide you through this four-week email course. The WSJ Fitness Challenge is a six-week program of step-up exercises designed to help people of all ages and fitness levels improve their health and fitness. The program was developed by veteran NBA sports performance coach Arnie Kander and fitness columnist Jen Murphy, and can be done anywhere, even in small spaces.
