As part of the DISH Open RAN cloud-based 5G network, Samsung has delivered the first shipment of 24,000 5G radios, and the first Samsung-virtualized RAN-supporting sites have already gone live across the network.

With Samsung Electronics and DISH Wireless (NYSE: DISH) launching Samsung-supported DISH 5G sites this week, Samsung is taking the next step in their partnership to ensure the success of the operator's nationwide rollout of the 5G network. Samsung has supplied an initial shipment of 24,000 Open RAN-compliant radios and 5G virtualized RAN (vRAN) software solutions for the DISH network deployment across the U.S., in an effort to accelerate the deployment of the network, which is poised to provide users of the DISH Wireless network with reliable and fast nationwide coverage.

According to Marc Rouanne, EVP and Chief Network Officer at DISH Wireless, "Samsung is a key player in the Open RAN ecosystem, which was developed through collaboration with other Open RAN leaders like Dell, VMware, AWS, and others," said Rouanne. As we progress towards covering 70 percent of the U.S. population with our cloud-native network, Samsung's 5G vRAN solutions and our shared innovation process allow DISH Wireless to continue the multi-vendor, open, and interoperable build-out of our 5G network.

DISH Wireless and Samsung have progressed their collaboration since they announced their multi-year agreement in May 2022-from field tests to successfully activating the first Samsung sites on the DISH 5G network. As part of this rollout, Samsung provided its complete portfolio of 5G solutions, including virtualized distributed units (vDU), virtualized central units (vCUs), and Open RAN-compliant 5G radios that support the DISH spectrum bands. Additionally, Samsung built specific Open RAN-compliant radios for this deployment.

"DISH Wireless is an innovator in mobile technologies, and we are delighted to reach new heights of connectivity together, validating the immense potential virtualization and openness can bring to the industry," said Junehee Lee, Samsung Electronics Executive Vice President, Global Sales & Marketing, Networks Business. Samsung's vRAN deployment in the U.S. has reached a significant milestone, and we look forward to continuing to work with DISH Wireless to accelerate 5G expansion and deliver next-generation connectivity across the country."

The DISH Open RAN architecture makes it possible for DISH Wireless and Samsung to continue to innovate to provide their customers with reliable, fast service and set the stage for DISH Wireless to offer corporations a wide range of new services and enhanced capabilities in the future.
